It occurs to me today, as it does quite often, that I am a supremely fortunate woman.

I have been in love with the same great guy for over 17 years. So few can say that; we must remember to be awed and grateful. The "awe" factor needs to stay in a marriage despite the day to day tasks like dishes and driving to work. I wonder sometimes how I got so lucky to fall in love with the right guy. Obviously some folks do not....

Together we share 2 fantastic daughters.

Our daughters have his wicked sense of humor and classic dry wit. They are growing into womanhood before our eyes. Blonde, blue eyed and smiling 99% of the time. The other 1% is reserved for those droll teenager looks given on occasion to their parents.

Katie is an artist and totally in love with horses. Art brings her joy and private expression. She admires her daddy so much they are like buddies. Sportier than we thought she would be (God forbid, she says she wants to learn how to SCA heavy fight one day) but so subtle and loving. She goes through life gently and quietly. We have to watch to make sure she is "okay."

Christie is passion. Even as a little child she had an old soul. I remember coming home from work and her asking intensely, "Mom, did anyone die today? Well then, did they have a GOOD death?"

Only the kid of a critical care nurse I guess. Now she has taken that same passion and compasion and turned to poetry and song. We attended her school concert last night and were so proud of her carriage and the discipline she has applied to her studies.

Yes, I am blessed.
