Sad Truth: People are not above lying and stealing.

Well, turns out the teenaged boy did do it...stole the girls' money I mean.

He showed up here yesterday and Les talked to him telling him we were restricting our children from access to him and why. He talked to Les again and for a while about how and why he would not have done this. He had Les fooled and when Les came in and told me about all the issues addressed, I admit I was feeling guilt.

Then I decided the only right thing to do when an adult speaks in such a way to a teen is to notify their parents.

So I called. I spoke to his dad who asked when it happened and how much money...he was not defensive, in fact he sounded defeated. He said the boy had $400 that week with a lame excuse...he supposedly won it in a boxing match but he is not too much bigger than Christie.

In any case, they are trying to get long term commitment for him...and we are helping by pressing charges. We told the man that we would accept installments on repayment of the money. He was very appreciative.

So today, Les got up this morning to go over to explain it all to the parents of the kids our girls' babysit. We went back to the police to get everything on record.

We are going to try for a restraining order since we cannot trust the kid not to be around our girls. It is all more than a little freaky as we are not police station type people but we are learning.

I am trying to think of this as an opportunity for the girls and us to develop a healthier wariness of people.

That is a hard balance with looking for the good in everyone.

Drive safely to Pennsic, drink lots (of water), wear sunscreen and hats and have fun. Return safely to us.
