Moving Day, or should I say DAYS!
2004-01-22 - 7:14 p.m.

Well, I think I posted once before that my office would be moving. I have had a wonderful private office (with a window overlooking our rose garden) for three years. It was previously a Director of Nursing's. Well, we are establishing an education suite by moving me (along with the CNS and the soon to be new technical staff educator) into one office with a large closet and small conference room/computer lab. Needless to say, we will have less space per person. Not too much of a problem for me...I only had about 6-7 linear feet of files and about 12-14 of manuals and books.

The Clinical Nurse Specicialist was in a large square office for over ten years. She had 12feet of lateral filespace, 2 large vertical file cabinets, four shelves of videos, and at least 18 feet of books/Manuals along with several xerox paper boxes here and there of general paper and stuff and several file drawers of stuff.

Day before yesterday we were told they were moving our PC's at 0900 yesterday. By noon when I got out of class we had PC's in one office, our phones still in the old offices and a general flow of stuff in a mish-mash from here to there between the three offices. She moved her desk and two small file drawers and started moving the boxes of stuff into our office. I told her no more boxes came in the office. They had to be gone through first and purged. I stayed til 2100 getting furniture moved from office to office so we had somewhere to transition the junk (my old office for now).

You see she throws nothing away. Some of the articles, videos and class notes are from the early 1990's. They are woefully out of date.

Today she taught class and the two other nurses in the move and I finished moving everything but about 6 feet of files and the manuals. This included several large pieces of furniture which thankfully a couple of the Heart Center guys came to help with at the end of the day. She finished teaching at 3:00 and left at 4:15 without moving a thing.

Les came by to assist me in shredding old PI reports and such. I am down to three stacks of files. Tomorrow I am off for travel and she says she will "do what she can."

I found out day before yesterday I am the presenting speaker for a program next Wednesday (about six hours of content)... because the sponsoring vendor could not get a speaker. So in between travel I will be writing a powerpoint presentation on the etiology, manifestations and treatment of heart failure.

Oh and Monday I have to help her rewrite a test she has not written that needs to be given next week. The saving grace is that all of this is going to be great for our department. The trick is just staying positive despite having so much to do and the office being a wreck.

The theory by some is that we are being put in the same office to help her focus and get work done...

...it seems to be working fine....

but for me, instead!

See you this weekend!
