Pieces of Life
2005-08-15 - 5:02 p.m.

Today Kate turns eighteen. She has spent the day being shuttled to and from various freshman "learning experienes" and bored to tears.

Tonight she is going to take her suite mates and new friends out for pizza to celebrate the passing of time.

She is coming home tomorrow afternoon to retake the driving exam...we are planning dinner together as a family. (Smile!)

It was VERY good to hear from her!

Her roomie is wonderful. Very secure, independent, quiet and funny. She joined us for brunch with Gpa and Ms Suzanne and fit right in. There are differences...she has a tattoo and some piercings. That was a bit of an eye opener for Gpa. But she is extremely smart, driven in school but also really shares a like sense of humor. Should be a great mix for Kate.

Chris loves school. She is signing up to be a math and Spanish tutor. That along with fencing and Concert Choir will make for a busy schedule. She is settling in to life as the only child at home. Still sleeping in Kate's bed but that may be to enjoy her stereo!

Zach is calling already...wonder how that will go this year.

Work flows on. Finished Sept schedules for 15 people.

Working 7a-7p for two days to precept a new employee then done with that.

Starting more nursing computer documentation classes soon. At training, I identified two areas of concern that had not been thought of. I guess that is good...in a sad kind of way.

SCA world is on slow-mo with so many at Pennsic. Why do I miss everyone instead of just enjoying it?

The cat is being extra sweet and almost clingy. He must be wondering where Kate is. Every day he wants me to hold him and pet him and last night he jumped up between Les and I and allowed us both to pet him.

This is not his normal M.O. as he will generally bite if you pet him more than once or twice.

He is even coming to treat Chris better...but then, if not, he waits til after six to get fed. He isn't stupid.
