Eliot and the SCA
2005-06-20 - 8:07 a.m.

Midsummer Twilight Tourney was a good trip and the weather turned out to be good...just this side of too hot.

Eliot came and had a good time. We watched the hound coursing in the am then he suffered through the ball with Kate and Chris. We were asked to high table and so did not eat dinner with the three of them but Nikulai was kind to remain there and provide the needed male backup. There was a snippet of the play Midsummer Nights Dream and the players were very funny. Colum announced the dishes with excerpts from other plays in which the main ingredients appeared. They had the cutest little mice meat balls with peppercorn eyes, almond ears and ham sliver tails. Too cute! I popped my mouse's eyes off and then wished I had two others to sit on the edge of my plate!

Later I had a great chat with Idones while he carved on his first mold. He really wanted to finish a piece (I think for Kate) but as always it was too shallow to fully pour the first time.

Kate ended up at the forge again this time for a bigger knife blade. We finished up at Master Eldred's where he talked about armoring and showed us different stakes, etc.

Christie spent the afternoon in service, serving feast and assisting with children's activities.

Before you know it, it was time and we ran to the hotel to freshen up, change and then met Nia, Neal, Rick and Marnie at Moe's. Good food and MUCH laughter and we were up way too late.

Up way to early to breakfast at Nia's new improved appt. It is so wonderful and I like the color. Intense yet but that is what she wanted and she actually has a lot of stuff that is perfect with it.

Long ride back with Daddy driving and all of us crashing. Eliot and Kate in the way back.

All in all, he was a great addition to the group and was a hit with our friends. I must admit it is jarring to see him and Kate walking hand in hand. We made an effort to provide privacy as often as possible considering the weekend was very much family in very little space.

Now off to appointments...wish me luck!
