Politics at the Pioneer House
2004-05-17 - 11:53 p.m.

Gonna be scanty updates over the next several weeks. Busy times home, work and SCA.

Welcome home C&P!

So Remember the PBS Historical Recreation experiments? The first was Victorian and the last was Frontier. Tonight, was premier of the first two Pioneer House episodes.

I must say, I thought I was going to like the lay preacher better than the Texas preacher who was selected as Governor...but no, their family dynamics and the way they treated their indentured servants was so calm, caring that they won me over...even before the crisis that sent most of them home.

The settlement limped on without them with the women staging their increasingly "typical" women's revolt. Gee, what show did they sign up for? Pioneer Sufferagettes? Really, the men should work the field every day AND cook every other? Geez.

Now, the Governor is returning but the preview is of an episode that revolves around a "Scarlet Letter" theme...and they thought just not getting a say was bad.

We do love this series though and the family all watched it together (seldom happens at our house.) We noted that they seem to be bouncing back toward our period. We are hoping for Elizabethan House where surely we can send our own AoD and Robert to represent us.

THAT would be a treat.
