Our daughter's used to watch the VH-1 series "I Love the 80's" with a mix of incredulous humor and interest. That is the decade to them of Mom and Dad meeting, marrying and starting their family. It gave them a point of reference.

This week began the series "I Love the 70's" which gives them the opportunity to see their parents peers at similar ages to their own now. Again, an interesting point of reference and a source of many giggles and shocked gasps.

Les and I find ourselves singing along to some of the songs, TV jingles and movie themes, remembering how easily we could find innocence and pathos in the media and laughing again at what was at one time shocking advances in humor.

So, in the current trend of examing my age, my past and future, here are some hilights of the 70's

The Bicentennial-fireworks over the Statue of Liberty and the long ships.

Carole Burnett (the Went with the Wind dress) to Sonny and Cher to Saturday Night Live (Land Shark)

Mork and Mindy, Fantasy Island, CHiPs, the Bradys vs the Partridges, Charlie's Angels

Coke commercials ("I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing") and The Indian Chiefs one tear

The Joy of Sex... "I am Woman" ... Riggs vs King .... streaking ... Studio 54.
