Full Day at Coronation
2002-09-10 - 10:00 a.m.

Coronation was a full day... there you go that pretty much sums it up.

We arrived later than we like to the hotel and slept poorly. I really did not feel like driving but we needed to take both vehicles to bring the pavilion. So,I knew my back was going to start the day poorly. We got up early and my incredibly sweet husband went and got coffee for me while my equally great daughters got ready with zero complaints. Then off to the site. On the way Christie and I modified a song to "this is the road that never ends."

We arrived to troll in smooth as silk but to find that our attempt to reserve space on the field had gone awry. I had a "moment," fortunately in the presence of 95% people who understand that yes, I will get over things but I sometimes need to work toward release.

Fortunately, I have great friends who love and support me and help me be a better person. Quickly there was a plan and we could proceed.

Les and I had a major commitment that am and had already morphed the plan to allow him to help MOL. We knew it would be tight but really felt it was necessary. I knew it would be stressful but.....

So the family finished setup while I ran to court. Concern, frustration and deja vu over the health of a friend. Great court buddies. Nice schtick and an intimate moment with the Queen in front of a couple hundred other people.

Back to serve lunch which turned out lovely. No anxiety just sweet appreciation and humor. Partial cleanup and a few minutes of peace and then two more event tasks while John MOL'd.

Emma has decided she would like to be my protege. Typically, we only had time to talk about it briefly before she was on to another task and so was I. She is very happy. I want it to be all it can be for her. More on this later.

Then there was the Pel meeting. Longer than I thought and certainly covered much more ground than I thought we would. Vignettes of observation of who we are as individuals. Thoughts of having our Monarchs both be Pelicans even if this was there first meeting. Still a unique and powerful experience knowing that they cared about our decisions on another level.

I was surprised and pleased to hear that Christine was to become Rhiannon's prote so my regard for her and duty to my Order took me to the hall. There I was rewarded first by airconditioning, next by the sweet support (and cool drinks offered by Kal and Manly) and then being able to witness this step in two very significant lives. Yep, a hilight of the day.

Court: a trek to a beautiful court site. Fun company. Bad seating, bad back. Sat between my family and newcomers. Had the lovely experience of ushering them through their first court and helping them understand what was what. Even escorted them down for Newcomers recognition (cause initially she did not want to go). C and P handled that so beautifully.

Back to the hotel to change (thank God) then out to dinner with fantastic friends. Late nights and early morning with others and then the long drive home.

Home to a few sad emails where friends took me to task for not spending time with them at Coronation. I stepped away from the keyboard til I could respond in love.

My day was too full and I limped for two days but today my back is better than it has been in months.

I wonder if Nikulai can claim that as an event related miracle?
